The Role:  The Director, Medical Publications and Communications is responsible for development and delivery of strategic publication plans and related medical communications for Flexion’s marketed and pipeline programs. The Director, Medical Publications and Communications will report into the Senior Director, Medical Communications, Information and Training

Responsibilities:

  • Develop publication strategy and supporting tactical plans for manuscripts and scientific congresses, and successfully execute on those plans
  • Lead and manage cross-functional publication teams for marketed and pipeline programs
  • Facilitate the development of new publication concepts through cross-functional collaborations and discussions, including identification of new analyses
  • Review and edit publications to ensure content is scientifically accurate and of high quality
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external authors and collaborators
  • Manage external agencies and medical writing contractors supporting the publication and medical communication planning and development activities
  • Develop and manage budgets and timelines for all publication and related medical communication deliverables
  • Develop publication processes and SOPs in alignment with good publication practices and industry standards; ensure all publication and related communication activities follow the processes and align with company policies and procedures, and provide internal training on publication best practices
  • Drive related medical communication activities
  • Represents Medical Publications and Communications in cross-functional meetings
  • Attends and supports key external medical/scientific meetings

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree required. Advanced health care professional degree strongly preferred. CMPP™ certification is a plus.
  • 8+ years’ experience within the pharmaceutical industry in Medical Publications and Communications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Power Point) is required
  • Ability to travel to meetings / conferences (domestic and international) potentially 10-15% of the time (currently no travel requirements due to COVD-19)

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated leadership in managing publication plans and vendors.
• Excellent project management skills.
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple projects; ability to multitask and work both independently and within multi-disciplinary teams.
• Understand the clinical development process
• Ability to critically appraise and apply knowledge gained from the medical/scientific literature.
• Strong interpersonal skills for effective professional communications, aiming to cultivate strong working relationships with both internal and external groups.
• Ability to effectively communicate complex medical/scientific information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Power Point) is required, as well as familiarity and working knowledge of key software applications relevant to publication planning and implementation (e.g., Datavision, literature search indices, journal databases, etc.).
